thank goodness this one's done

Let's hope 2005 brings sanity, peace, and prosperity to this tortured world.

wrong one, George

News is that little w. is going to be sending little brother Jebbie to tour the areas ravaged by tsunamis to determine the amount of damage and spearhead the initial stages of the recovery efforts. Apparently being governor of Florida is really only a day job during election cycles. What I'd like to know is why he isn't sending Neil. We know that he already has a familiarity with Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand, and has had extensive interactions with the native peoples, especially the disenfranchised like hookers and drug dealers.

on the road again

News is just now breaking of a horrific nightclub fire at a rock concert in Buenos Aires, and reports say there are at least 174 fatalities and are mentioning the use of fireworks as responsible for setting the blaze that initiated this tragic event.

the case against bi-partisanship

There has been a lot of introspection going on in the liberal camp, and many people of that social and political bent are caught up in the idea that the Democratic party needs to "reach across the aisle" and try to be inclusive of conservatives.

Why?

Don't the Democrats see what has been going on for the last few decades now? The Republicans have unapologetically demonized liberals as treasonous, against capitalism, and devoid of morals and ethics. Why in the world would we want to be inclusive of hateful bigots? Does anyone with a shred of integrity want to be associated with them in any way?

These people are contemptible, malicious and power-hungry scoundrels, are damaging America at home and abroad, and we need to be screaming this at the tops of our lungs all of the time. We can not take back this country from the hypocritical religious fanatics that are destroying it by trying to fool people into joining our cause by seeming to be more like the ones that we need to cast out. Bash our ignorant and illegitimate president and his toadies, henchmen, and minions today and every day. It's the only way to start winning again and to return to the real fundamental concepts this country is based on, freedom and individualism.

shorter Bush comments

"What do you mean, stingy? We gave you money last year, what did you do with it all? I'm better than Clinton!"

I'm so fucking ashamed of this administration.

missing inaction?

Where is George Bush? Knowing our little w.'s taste for grandstanding, it is most puzzling to note his complete absence from view over the holiday period. With the catclysmic loss of life around the Indian Ocean this weekend, it makes Our Leader's invisibility highly suspicious.

My guess? Our national albatross has secretly had some sort of critical medical procedure done, in accord with the stroke-victim appearance he has had for some time now, and he is simply unable to show himself at this time while he is recuperating. It will be most interesting to observe his physical appearance the next time he shows up in public.

Or, perhaps he is just busy planning for his January coronation, trying to figure out how to get by with only forty-four million dollars for pomp and pageantry. Of course, that means that he's also trying to convince himself that sending that thirty-five million to assist the hundreds of thousands of people who had their lives turned upside down by a tsunami was enough to salve our national conscience. We sure are a great country. Just ask a republican.

whatta guy

In the wake of the horrible tsunami disaster in the northern Indian Ocean, a natural disaster that makes Florida's hurricane travails last summer look like a couple of bad rainstorms, Our Leader has risen to the occasion, the administration announcing today that they are going to send fifteen million dollars to help with the cleanup and recovery from this historic incident. Gosh, I could probably throw another twenty or thirty cents into the pot myself.

At our present "burn rate" of about five billion dollars per week for our illegal invasion of Iraq, that fifteen million represents approximately thirty minutes of the cost of the Iraq occupation. Insert your own derisive comment about American values here, I'm too tired.

it seemed like a sure thing

Well, the voting is done and the exit polls are showing Viktor Yushchenko with an apparently insurmountable lead in the Ukraine election do-over conducted today. We all know what those exit poll results mean, don't we?

Congratulations to Viktor Yanukovych on his win.

famous bigot bites the dust!

Good riddance.

he finally says something true

"All these people hate me. And I'm an anti-Semite, I'm a homophobe—I'm anti-Canadian!" - Bill O'Reilly

planning ahead for '08

After watching clips of the interaction between the two presidential candidates and seeing the man from whom the election was stolen through vote fraud perpetrated by the operatives of the other party as well as an attempt on his life finally get the chance to get right up in the face of the crook who claimed to win the election, I can only say that I whole-heartedly endorse Viktor Yushchenko for President of the United States in 2008.

Finally, a candidate with some balls.

coinkydink?

There's been a lot of discussion and analysis the last several days about the three to five point drop in little Georgie's approval ratings observed in the last few weeks by the first post-election polls. Pundits are asking various forms of the question "how could this happen so fast?" Well, here's an explanation. His approval rating is exactly where it was at the time of the election, and what we are seeing is more disconnect between exit polls and actual votes. In other words, this is more evidence of the massive vote fraud being alleged by many since our bungled election. How else would his approval so rapidly conform itself with the exit-poll-predicted outcome of the election?

why the death penalty is wrong

While there are a multitude of arguments against state-imposed murder, here is the simplest one:

The person being executed suffers no more. They are dead. The only people who are punished are the innocent family and friends of the executed one who are forced to live with the pain of that punishment for the rest of their lives.

How unfair is that in a civilized country?

more fun with math

The Defense Department has announced that it will keep our military presence in Iraq at about the same number of 140,000 for the next two years. If my math is right, this means that we are already committed to an occupation lasting at least four years at about a hundred billion dollars per year. This proof of the blatant dishonesty of our present government is courtesy of our president and his administration, folks. How can there still be any doubt that we were lied to?

sore Loserman?

Joe Lieberman is a trusting soul. One with a short memory. Joe has been mentioned as a potential head of the Fatherland Security department. Good idea, Joe, go ahead and take it. Do you seriously think the Republican party, and specifically the Bush administration, are going to put a Democrat in any kind of position of power without an ulterior motive or two? Joe, there will be another attack on the United States in the next four years, and if you are the department boss, you take the fall and the Republicans once again will get a free pass for their own incompetence by distracting the idiot public with the loud and repetitious screech that a DEMOCRAT permitted the attack to happen. Take the job and you can kiss your career and any respect you have accrued over the years goodbye, Joe.

three blind mice

Our Leader, in a bold stroke of genius, has once again lowered the bar for all of us. He awarded the Medal of Freedom, the United States' highest civilian decoration, to George Tenet, Tommy Franks, and Jerry Bremer, showering them with flowery accolades and buffing the dull reality of their service to a high, fictional sheen. One has to hand it to little w., it is rare that you see someone who is so determined that just saying things are so makes them that way. I grow more ashamed of my country each day. For anyone who thinks I hate America, here is the truth. I love America. I am repulsed by many of my countrymen. To paraphrase Lucy Van Pelt, "I love America, it's Americans I can't stand."

the straight stuff

There has been a lot of fuss made over the infiltration of the christian fundamentalists into the Republican party, to the extent that they are claiming credit for the recent election of little w. and his administration of fools for four more years. The legitimacy of the Bush elections aside, we liberal progressive types desperately need to counterpoint that incipient theocracy, and we have the correct tool with which to do it. The statement by MoveOn.org that they effectively "bought" the Democratic party in the last election cycle is true, and we need to beat that drum hard. The true socially-left liberals are the heart of the Democratic party just the same as the redundantly-born fundamentalists are the heart of the Republican party. These are truly the two Americas, the educated and realistic liberals struggling against the tribalistic and reality-denying conservatives. Whether we care to admit it or not, they are out to eradicate us. They have no desire to co-exist with people of our social and political leanings and will not stop until they have removed us from their society. It really is time for this country to choose who it really is, and like it or not, we are in a life-and-death battle for our very existence.

Prints Michael

A California newspaper is reporting that the fingerprints of both Michael Jackson and of his young accuser have been found on pornographic magazines taken as evidence from the famous "Neverland" Ranch Michael uses as bait. Sounds like Michael should have worn TWO gloves...

nanny, nanny, boo-boo

Noted presidential ass-kisser Bernie Kerik has now turned down the Homeland Security position that little w. graced him with last week. Coming on the heels of his unexplainedly abbreviated tour in Iraq to help "educate" the Iraqis in security techniques and his exposure in the Riker's Island Republican campaigner police squad story, it makes you wonder what else he is involved in. If this guy knows he's too dirty to survive, even in a Bush's administration, one shudders to think of what other sorts of skeletons he has in his closet. If the aforementioned little resume points weren't enough to disqualify him, it seems dubious that having an illegal nanny (what kind of cop uses a nanny?) would be enough to topple his house of cards.

food for thought - but don't eat any

So what doctors have been saying all along is finally confirmed - Yushchenko was indeed poisoned with a massive amount of dioxin, the Love Canal chemical. Seeing as how this administration was backing his opponent, one can only wonder if that wasn't some of little w.'s in-house spooks, or if daddy may have gotten back into the spy biz.

it's so puzzling

Lou Dobbs just had to help demonstrate why our press corps are such oblivious morons. He observed today that the United States was "making one liberty ship every day" during World War II (at, of course, the END of the war and after having many difficulties ramping up to that level of production, but that would be too difficult to research) but that now we can't supply enough up-armored Humvees for our military in Iraq with twice the population that we had in the 1940's. He continued by painfully wondering aloud why it was necessary for it to come down to a single soldier asking the Secretary of Defense at a photo-op assembly for this problem to be finally addressed.

Why, oh why?

Gee, Lou, maybe it's because our "independent media" are comprised mostly of numb-witted political sycophants who don't do their job of keeping check on our government officials by informing the people of the truth and holding the powers that be publicly accountable for their governance. You know, guys like you, Lou.

fun with math

According to Lou Dobbs via CNN, American military medical personnel are saving the lives of "nine out of ten" US military wounded in Iraq. That means that there have been twelve thousand American armed forces members wounded since our invasion and occupation of a sovereign country in violation of our agreements with the United Nations. A large percentage of them are missing arms, legs, eyes, abdominal organs, mental abilities, and their lives will forever be changed as a result of the actions of our corporo-fascist ruling bloc. Four more years...

values

"But you've got to kill the terrorists before the killing stops. And I'm for the president to chase them all over the world. If it takes 10 years, blow them all away in the name of the lord."

Jerry Falwell on CNN.

stop the presses!

Famous former political prisoner, Natan Sharansky, has written a new book called "The Case For Democracy." He just finished visiting Bush and found that little w. praised his book! If this is true, it makes the second time in the last three years that Our Leader has read one. I wonder if he thought it was a sequel to "The Pet Goat?"

a thousand points of light

I can't decide if it's more depressing than funny that the shining symbol of democracy in action and of government by the people is taking place in...

...the Ukraine.
